The reality of magic. Part II.
«Money, money, money! Must be funny…»
‘The Hunger’ reality show participants spent 106 days in Moscow, then in New York – with no money, food and knowing no English. There was everything in the house they stayed, convenient bedrooms and shower-cabins, Jacuzzi, exquisite parlors, kitchen, more than 40 video cameras operating 24 hours and microphones. But there were no food! For this, each week two participants went out into the city so to fend for food and money. They could do whatever they wanted and return back whenever they wanted. While some participants were searching for food, others stayed at home. There was no help within reach. Participants had reliance in themselves only. Motivation was simple as ABC. The winner earned a life-time salary of one thousand US dollars.
The participants of another project ‘The last hero’ also struggled for money. In order to win, they avenged, betrayed and let each other down, demonstrating not far the best aspects of their personality. The core of the reality show came to the fact that morally backstabbing hero wins, not physically strong one. The same concept can be seen in current Russian reality-show ‘Holidays in Mexico’. According to the authors’ view, these are the best holidays in participants’ lives: chocolate suntan, hot night clubs, limitless credit in bar and cool parties. As well as intrigues, fights, stich-ups, tears and betrayal. An ability to prepossess so to further dexterously manipulate others for one’s profit is highly valued here. Furthermore, they eat bugs, cockroaches, chili peppers, girls get skin-headed and boys absolutely naked. One million rubles are at stake!
And in American reality-show ‘The Single’, one single oligarch chooses his life partner and has a time to date with all brides-to-be materials. It is jeering to observe the fight of women with their minds beclouded with golden Swiss bank account and rich life.
In a word, almost all up-to-date reality-shows somehow mean financial and material incentives. But there are ones with money being of no importance absolutely. To be continued…
