The premiere of the unique, unprecedented TV project Dr. Life is coming soon!
It made us to explore the history of this TV genre a bit. What attracts people in the demonstration of the reality TV, served with such taste? What exactly do its producers place the stake on ?

"Big Brother is watching you!"

Normally, Holland is considered to be the birth place of reality TV. It was there where 13 years ago the Big Brother went on the air. It was, probably, the most famous reality show in the world with the highest ever ratings. Its essence was simple: several people live together in closed space under the care of Big Brother which constantly watches them. Every his word is a law. Disobedience leads to exclusion from the project. All participants who disobeyed are sent home. The house is full of surveillance cameras recording every step of the participants daily and nightly. The participants are deprived of any contacts with the outer world. Every day they receive tasks they must fulfil. The implementation of the tasks is to unite them and raise the morale of the team.

Since then, similar TV projects used to appear almost in every country. The first reality show of similar type in Russian television was “Za Steklom” [“Behind the glass”]. Its premiere took place in 2001. Every day participants of the show received special tasks they had to do, e.g. to sweep the floor using a tooth brush or to bale water out of a bath using a tea spoon. Only two participants have come through to the final. They both received $15,000 each as a prize.

After the Big Brother, other reality projects filled the air all over the world. It’s because this genre corresponds with an unconscious desire of a human being to oversee other people’s life.
For example, the American Family reality show merely broadcasted a life of an ordinary American family nationwide. The project didn’t teach anything and didn’t call to anything. But the effect of spying remained in further projects too.
